January 2024 2023 NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE UROLOGY ALUMNI HIGHLIGHTS AND AWARDSThese highlights feature the achievements of several alums, including professional accomplishments, awarded research grants and other recognitions.
Northwestern Medicine Urology Resident Alumni Highlights Alexander Glaser, MD, ’18 GMER, received a five-year R01 from the NIH to study the use of TNF- antagonists in BPH/LUTS patients with large prostate volumes. Dr. Glaser specializes in BPH and endourology at NorthShore and is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Shilajit Kundu, MD, ’07 GMER, was named the Samar Kumar Kundu Professor of Urology at Northwestern Medicine. A named and endowed professorship represents the pinnacle of academic achievement and excellence and are reserved for the most distinguished and productive physicians and scientists. Dr. Kundu is chief of Urologic Oncology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Margaret (Peggy) Pearle, MD, PhD, ’93 GMER, recently finished her term as president of the Endourological Society. The Endourological Society aims to improve the lives of patients with benign and malignant urologic conditions by reducing the morbidity of invasive treatments through novel technology, innovative techniques, and non-invasive medical management. Adam Weiner, MD, ’22 GMER, was awarded a Young Investigator Award from the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The three-year, $225,000 award will fund Dr. Weiner’s research, which aims to analyze prostate-specific antigen levels measured by advanced PET imaging for personalized prostate cancer treatment. Dr. Weiner is currently a urologic oncology fellow at UCLA Health. Faculty Awards Anthony J. Schaeffer, MD, Herman L. Kretschmer Professor of Urology and professor of Urology at Northwestern Medicine, was awarded the 2023 Feinberg School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Award. The award is presented annually to recognize alums whose outstanding professional achievements bring honor to the medical school and merit special recognition.
