LURIE CANCER CENTER RECEIVES PROSTATE CANCER SPORE GRANT RENEWAL

Featuring: Sarki Abdulkadir, MD, PhD, Maha Hussain, MD, and Leonidas Platanias, MD, PhD.
Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University was recently awarded a highly competitive, five-year $9.2 million grant renewal from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for its continued leadership of a Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Prostate Cancer, one of only eight in the country.
 
The co-principal investigators are:
  • Sarki Abdulkadir, MD, PhD, vice chair for research in the Department of Urology, the John T. Grayhack, MD, Professor of Urologic Research, and a member of Lurie Cancer Center
  • Maha Hussain, MD, deputy director of Lurie Cancer Center and the Genevieve E. Teuton Professor of Medicine
 
The projects supported by the grant will focus on two urgent issues in the field of prostate cancer:
  • Targeting the MYC Pathway in Prostate Cancer 
  • Redirecting the Sensitivity of Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer to Immunotherapy
