2 NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE PHYSICIANS MAKE NMQF’S ‘40 UNDER 40 LEADERS IN MINORITY HEALTH’ LIST

Featuring: David A. Ramirez, MD, Nilay S. Shah, MD

David A. Ramirez, MD, assistant professor of Ophthalmology, and Nilay S. Shah, MD, assistant professor of Cardiology, both of Northwestern Medicine, have made the 2024 National Minority Quality Forum 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health Honorees list. The ‘40 Under 40’ list highlights physicians who have dedicated their careers to improving their local communities and lowering health inequities within those communities.

David A. Ramirez, MD, a pediatric ophthalmologist at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, focusing on education and addressing health disparities. He developed a passion for pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus during extensive travels across the U.S. while pursuing his medical education and surgical training. Dr. Ramirez is committed to providing compassionate and patient-centered care for a wide range of eye diseases.

As a physician-scientist and general cardiologist, Nilay Shah, MD, focuses on cardiometabolic health and evidence-based cardiovascular disease prevention earlier in life. His goals include identifying, implementing and scaling effective prevention strategies, particularly among young adults, with a focus on promoting cardiovascular health and addressing disparities. Dr. Shah's work uses various approaches, including implementation science and community engagement, to work toward equitably preventing cardiovascular disease for all.
