NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE UROLOGY AT 2022 ASRM AND SMSNA ANNUAL MEETINGS

Northwestern Medicine Urology was proud to participate in the annual American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Scientific Congress and Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) Fall Scientific Meeting held last month. Our faculty and trainees presented new research and clinical findings, participated in panel discussions, moderated sessions and contributed to scientific posters. 
 
Highlights From ASRM 2022
 
  • Joshua A. Halpern, MD, assistant professor of Urology, was named director-at-large for the Society of Male Reproduction and Urology (SMRU) and will serve a three-year term on the board.
  • Robert E. Brannigan, MD, vice chair of Clinical Urology and chief of Male Reproductive Medicine and Men’s Health in the Department of Urology, presented the honorary American Urological Association (AUA) Bruce Stewart Memorial Lecture, Fertility Preservation in the Male Across the Lifespan: A New Paradigm.
  • Daniel Greenberg (a third-year resident) was awarded the SMRU Traveling Scholar Award. Under the leadership of Dr. Brannigan and Dr. Halpern, he presented his research on machine-learning-enabled prediction of successful sperm retrieval for microdissection on testicular sperm extraction.
  • Dr. Halpern participated in a roundtable presentation on current and future options for pediatric fertility preservation.
  • Dr. Brannigan and Dr. Halpern also served as senior authors for posters presented at the meeting, including:
    • Oncotesticular Sperm Extraction for Bilateral Metachronous Testis Cancer
    • The Association Between Socioeconomic Status and IVF Success Rates in Infertile Couples
    • Area Deprivation Index (ADI) Is Not Associated With Impaired Semen Parameters in a Population-Based Cohort
    • Socio-Economic Status Is Associated With Assisted Reproductive Technology Utilization and Fertility Outcomes in a Cohort Of Sub-Fertile Men
 
Highlights From SMSNA 2022
 
  • Dr. Bennett served as a moderator for the Desire, Couples, and Relationships abstract session and the Invited Talks session.
  • Dr. Halpern contributed to original research titled “Direct-to-Consumer Telemedicine Companies Offering Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy,” which was presented at the oral abstract session.
