She also talks about advances in technology, such as continuous glucose monitoring.

“Gestational diabetes is one of the most common complications of pregnancy,” Dr. Szmuilowicz says. “And depending on the criteria used to diagnose GDM, it affects anywhere from 6% to 25% of pregnant women. So it is quite prevalent, and it is associated with increased risks of several serious conditions in both the mothers and the infants.”
