May 2024 TRANSCRIPTION FACTORS INFLUENCE INSULIN-PRODUCING BETA CELLSFeaturing: Joseph T. Bass, MD, PhD and Benjamin Weidemann
A new study by researchers at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has identified a group of transcription factors that play a crucial role in the development of insulin-producing beta cells. The study, which was published in the journal Cell Metabolism, found that these transcription factors are responsible for regulating the expression of genes that are essential for the proper functioning of beta cells. Listen to this episode of Better Edge, as Joseph T. Bass, MD, PhD, and Benjamin Weidemann, discuss their findings and how their discovery could lead to new therapeutic strategies for diabetes. |
Joseph T. Bass, MD, PhD, the Charles F. Kettering Professor of Medicine and chief of Endocrinology in the Department of Medicine, was senior author of the study published in Cell Metabolism.
Benjamin Weidemann, a student in the Medical Scientist Training Program, was the lead author of the study.
