September 2023 MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY FOR ICH: A PRACTICAL WORKSHOPSaturday, October 14
Northwestern Center for Advanced Surgical Education (NCASE) 240 East Huron Street, Suite LC-0549, Chicago 7:00 am to 2:30 pm Sponsored by Northwestern Medicine and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Department of Neurological Surgery Course Director: Babak S. Jahromi, MD, PhD With 40% mortality at one month and only 25% of patients functionally independent at six months, intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating disease in dire need of an effective treatment. To date, clinical trials investigating a wide range of therapeutic options — including open surgery, aggressive blood pressure control, and hemostatic agents — have not demonstrated a marked improvement in outcomes for these patients, resulting in a dearth of options and at times nihilism in care for these patients both locally and across the USA. This program brings together national and regional experts to review current evidence and help educate practitioners on the latest interventions for ICH. Attendees will learn about better strategies for medical and surgical management of ICH along with hands-on training of endoscopic hemorrhage evacuation. The curriculum was developed with expert medical and surgical faculty in the field, and it includes didactic sessions, hands-on workshop-stations with 3D-printed heads and endoscope ICH evacuation, and a multidisciplinary case review in which attendees bring cases to present institutional ICH management strategies.
