October 2022 NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE RECEIVES $5M GIFT TO SUPPORT EXCELLENCE IN OPHTHALMOLOGYNorthwestern Medicine received a transformational $5M gift from Chicago philanthropist Carol Lavin Bernick to support clinical care, research and education in ophthalmology.
“We are profoundly grateful to Ms. Bernick for her shared vision and philanthropic leadership,” said Nicholas J. Volpe, MD, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology. “The Lavin family has been an invaluable partner in shaping the trajectory of Northwestern Medicine, and this recent gift adds to that legacy. Through Ms. Bernick’s generosity, we can continue to practice medicine at the highest level by pursuing innovative ideas and providing our clinicians with the resources necessary to deliver exceptional vision care to the patients and communities we serve.” Ms. Bernick’s gift comes at a pivotal moment as Northwestern Medicine lays the foundation to establish an Eye Institute. Funding will help accelerate this goal, as the program moves to expand its clinical and research footprint and become a national destination for eye care. |
