September 2022 NEW CHIEF RESIDENTS AT NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE MARIANJOY REHABILITATION HOSPITALGet to know Ishaan Hublikar, DO, and Jason Lew, DO, the two new chief residents at Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, as they share their perspectives on their residencies.
Ishaan Hublikar, DO, Chief Resident What are your clinical areas of focus? I am most interested in spinal cord injury and am applying for a fellowship in that area. What made you want to join Marianjoy? I did a rotation at Marianjoy as a fourth-year medical student and loved the camaraderie among the residents and how they were willing to go out of their way to help one another. Marianjoy also helps prepare for any type of job coming out of residency. I liked that we take care of patients from so many different hospitals in the Chicagoland area. The severity of patients' illnesses and the large variety of pathology we see at our hospital is also invaluable for learning. What innovations are happening at Marianjoy that you are most excited to be a part of? We are always trying to grow and change — we are likely incorporating a new Sports Medicine/ Musculoskeletal Medicine rotation for third-year residents which will give us better training in that area. Is there anything else you want alumni to know? We would love to hear from alumni and where they are practicing! It would be great for our alumni network to be there to lean on, especially for new fourth-year residents that are preparing to enter the attending physician world after graduation, or those that are applying for fellowships and want to hear about past experiences. Jason Lew, DO, Chief Resident What are your clinical areas of focus? I'm most interested in brain injury, spasticity management and EMGs. However, I am interested in almost all areas of physical medicine and rehabilitation. What made you want to join Marianjoy? My interview and visit to Marianjoy was my favorite of all the places I visited. I appreciated the relationships amongst the residents and staff. It's a unique experience to get to rotate at a large free-standing hospital, and I felt that this experience would best prepare me for the future. I also knew some previous residents who really enjoyed their experiences here. We have amazing attendings that are so knowledgeable and nice. What innovations are happening at Marianjoy that you are most excited to be a part of? We continue to grow in terms of volunteer and leadership opportunities and improve our rotation schedule. Additionally, we are looking forward to the expansion of the outpatient clinic, even though we won't be here to see it! Is there anything else you want alumni to know? We love meeting up with alumni at conferences and would love to hear from them and their experiences now that they are attendings. |
