CJASN 2021 EDITORS' CHOICE ARTICLES RECOGNIZES PUBLICATION BY NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE’S PARK AND FRIEDEWALD

The publication titled, Combining Blood Gene Expression and Cellfree DNA to Diagnose Subclinical Rejection in Kidney Transplant Recipients – co-authored by Northwestern Medicine Nephrology and Hypertension’s, Sook Hyeon Park, MD, and John J. Friedewald, MD – was recently selected as CJASN 2021 Editors' Choice articles. The study investigated the diagnostic performance of a blood gene expression profile biomarker and plasma donor-derived cellfree DNA assay in stable patients with kidney transplants and either normal surveillance biopsies or subclinical rejection.
 
The work was one of five articles from 2021 selected by editors for exemplifying the highest potential to inform future research, change clinical practice, or influence public policy, particularly in the United States. The publication also earned Dr. Park the first-place prize in the 2021 CJASN Trainee of the Year.
