October 2021 NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE OPHTHALMOLOGY WELCOMES NEW ORBITAL AND OCULOPLASTIC SURGEONThe Department of Ophthalmology at Northwestern Medicine is pleased to welcome Liza M. Cohen, MD. Dr. Cohen joins as an assistant professor of Ophthalmology. Her areas of interest include orbital vascular malformations, thyroid eye disease, orbital trauma, orbital tumors, lacrimal surgery, reconstructive surgery, and aesthetic eyelid and facial surgery.
She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, lectured at national and international conferences, taught at various facial and orbital surgery courses, and received many awards, including being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society, and receiving the Bartley R. Frueh, MD, Award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), and the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology Excellence in Research Award. Dr. Cohen earned her medical degree from Northwestern University through the combined baccalaureate/medical degree seven-year Honors Program in Medical Education, graduating with distinction in research. She subsequently completed her ophthalmology residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Cohen was selected for the prestigious two-year ASOPRS fellowship at the UCLA Stein and Doheny Eye Institutes, where she trained in orbital and oculofacial plastic surgery.
