December 2022 ELUCIDATING THE GENETIC MECHANISMS OF UROLOGIC CANCERSRendong Yang, PhD, is an associate professor of Urology and principal investigator of the Yang Laboratory at Northwestern Medicine. This lab integrates large-scale, multi-dimensional genomic data to understand the initiation and progression of diseases and drive innovations in precision oncology. The lab’s projects involve developing highly accurate and sensitive computational methods for analyzing large-scale genomic data, especially in detecting and analyzing genetic variations and somatic mutations using next-generation sequencing data.
Dr. Yang recently received a Polsky Urologic Cancer Institute Research Award to evaluate the role of a class of non-protein-coding RNA (lncRNA) in developing metastatic-castrate-resistant prostate cancer. Identifying these novel lncRNA will help design novel therapeutic interventions that can target advanced tumors and better tools that can accurately predict the progression of cancer.
