Northwestern Medicine is pleased to welcome William N. Metcalf-Doetsch, MD, and Roxanna M. Garcia, MD, MPH, back to the Department of Neurological Surgery. Both Dr. Doetsch and Dr. Garcia completed their residency in neurosurgery at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. They will join Drew A. Spencer, MD, at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital.
Palos Hospital extends Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s academic-level neurosurgery care to patients in the south suburbs of Chicago — a representation of our ongoing commitment to improving access to quality neurosurgery care for our patients.
Dr. Metcalf-Doetsch joins as an assistant professor of Neurological Surgery. He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas. After completing his residency in neurosurgery at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, Dr. Metcalf-Doetsch completed a United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS)-accredited fellowship in neuro-critical care and a year of endovascular training. He recently completed his fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery at the University of Buffalo.
Dr. Metcalf-Doetsch will be providing general neurosurgery and neurovascular care at Palos Hospital and supporting neurovascular services. His clinical interests include carotid vascular disease, stroke and intercranial disorders in older adults.
Dr. Garcia joins as assistant professor of Neurological Surgery. She earned her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and a master’s degree in public health and epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Garcia completed a surgical internship and her residency in neurosurgery at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and a fellowship in neuro-critical care at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Garcia’s fellowship training in neuro-critical care will enable her to support the growing Northwestern Medicine Stroke and Cerebrovascular Program and the new Neuro-critical Care Unit at Palos Hospital. She will also conduct international health research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Her clinical interests include stroke, brain and spine lesions, spine surgery and CSF leaks, and spine trauma.
