Northwestern Medicine Rheumatology has long been involved in supporting efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and to promote health equity. Rosalind Ramsey-Goldman, MD, is chair of the American College of Rheumatology Collaborative Initiatives (COIN) Special Committee. Their mission is to use rheumatic diseases as case studies for treating complex diseases, advancing health equity, eliminating health disparities and improving the quality of patients’ lives.
Under the COIN Special Committee, Irene Blanco, MD, co-chairs the 13-member DEI sub-committee. They aim to explore strategies to increase diversity in the rheumatology workforce pipeline and reduce biases in organizational processes, such as speaker recruitment and abstract review.
