Of the patients who survive the critical illness secondary to COVID-19, there has been limited information regarding their rehabilitation care needs. And their cases are complex—they have had transplants, are dialysis-dependent and have oxygen needs at baseline.

Larissa R. Pavone, MD, pediatric physiatrist and program director of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, is leading the effort to establish standardized rehabilitation treatment for serious/critical COVID-19 survivors in the rehabilitation phase of recovery in order to optimize long-term outcomes.
