Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The vision of the Northwestern Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is to be the global leader in obstetrics, gynecology, women’s health and healthcare delivery through innovations in person-centered care, research and education. This report is a brief summary of our accomplishments over the last fiscal year, September 2020 to August 2021. We are proud of the highlighted success stories of our faculty, trainees, students and staff. We underscore our extraordinarily high inpatient and outpatient volumes reflecting a large number of surgical procedures, outstanding training programs and leading-edge research in core areas of gynecology and obstetrics. Health Care for LGBTQ Patients
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is dedicated to meeting the unique care needs of LGBTQ patients. We have worked closely with community partners and the Northwestern University Office of Diversity and Inclusion to better identify these patients’ needs as they relate to individual care and gender-inclusive facilities. |
Center for Health Equity Transformation
The Center for Health Equity Transformation (CHET) aims to improve health for all by exposing root causes of health inequities and serving as a hub that pushes boundaries in research, education, workforce development and community engagement. |
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
We recognize the critical importance that diversity, equity and inclusion play in the success of our department’s mission. We are committed to fostering an environment where these values guide us, and we welcome all we serve. |
Our Health System Clinician Faculty
The Health System Clinicians (HSC) of Prentice Women’s Hospital is a group of approximately 100 faculty members from 18 self-employed practice groups. The HSC practices have a stellar reputation of providing the outstanding care and professionalism. |
Chicago Institute for Fetal Health
The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health (CIFH) is the regional leader in complex fetal surgery. The institute provides antenatal counseling and care, plus intervention and management. The multidisciplinary team approach allows for both the pregnant patient and fetus to receive optimal care. |
Faculty Spotlight: Melissa A. Simon, MD, MPH
Melissa A. Simon, MD, MPH, Gardner Professor and vice-chair for research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, runs one of the largest dry laboratory research enterprises in the country. Dr. Simon is a leader in implementation science research aimed at promoting health equity focused on diverse underserved groups, and she has received funding from the National Institutes of Health and foundations in support of this work. |
