October 2024 PERRY XU, MD, JOINS NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE UROLOGY FACULTYPerry Xu, MD, former endourology fellow at Northwestern Medicine, has joined the faculty as assistant professor of Urology.
Dr. Xu earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from University of Southern California and his medical degree at Saint Louis University. Following medical school, he completed a urology residency at University of California Irvine. He further specialized by completing a fellowship in endourology under the mentorship of Amy Krambeck, MD, at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Dr. Xu’s clinical expertise focuses on minimally invasive surgery, with particular emphasis on treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and complex kidney stone disease. His research interests include innovation and medical device development, where he seeks to advance the field of urology through technological breakthroughs. Recently, Dr. Xu placed third in the clinical category of the Endourological Society Annual Essay Contest. The paper titled “To Hold or Continue Blood Thinners? A Retrospective Analysis on Outcomes of Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) in Patients who Either Held or Continued Antiplatelet/Anticoagulation Therapy,” aimed to assess the differences in results between individuals who maintained or discontinued antiplatelet or anticoagulation therapy during HoLEP. |
