September 2024 CASE CHALLENGE: TESTICULAR CANCER IN 30-YEAR-OLD MALEA 30-year-old male patient in good health discovered a firm lump in his right hemiscrotum. After undergoing a scrotal ultrasound, irregular areas of increased echogenicity and multiple tumors were found in his right testicle. The diagnosis of testicular cancer was confirmed due to the indurated nature of the right testicle.
The patient was referred to Robert E. Brannigan, MD, of Northwestern Medicine Urology. The patient shared that he wanted to have children in the future, but his semen test results showed no presence of sperm. Dr. Brannigan performed a right radicle orchiectomy. After removing the cancerous testicle, his team conducted an intraoperative Onco-TESE and successfully extracted viable sperm for future IVF procedures. |
