ROBOTIC INTRACORPOREAL ILEAL URETER REPLACEMENT FOR DEVASTATED URETER

Robotic intracorporeal ileal ureter replacement (RIUR) remains an important reconstructive option for patients with long‑segment ureteral defects that are not amenable to alternative approaches. In this video, Ziho Lee, MD, discusses a recent European Urology publication reporting RIUR outcomes across three high‑volume centers.

The study evaluates perioperative characteristics, complication rates and intermediate‑term surgical success in 48 patients undergoing RIUR, including a substantial subset with prior radiation exposure. Dr. Lee highlights key considerations for patient selection, the technical complexity of the procedure and factors associated with surgical outcomes.
