STUDY EVALUATES PAIN AND ITS CLINICAL IMPACT IN IDIOPATHIC INFLAMMATORY MYOPATHIES

A study published in Arthritis Care & Research, featuring Yvonne Lee, MD, examines the prevalence of pain and factors associated with pain in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies.

The study’s findings include that:
  • 86% of patients reported pain.
  • Pain prevalence was similar across disease subtype, sex, race, smoking status and obesity.
  • Higher pain levels were associated with higher patient-reported disease activity.
  • Pain was also linkd with worse physical function, greater fatigue, and lower quality of life and health satisfaction.

Overall, the findings underscore the need to better understand pain in this population.
