September 2025 PRESENTED AT AACPDM 2025
In her presentation "Removable Serial Casting: A Novel Approach to Toe Walking" at AACPDM 2025, Larissa Pavone, MD, will discuss the critical issue of toe walking in children, highlighting the risks of developing contractures that can affect mobility into adulthood.
Drawing on previous research indicating that traditional serial casting can improve ankle range of motion, Dr. Pavone introduces an innovative removable casting protocol using polyester-based materials. This study aims to evaluate its efficacy through pre- and post-casting assessments of ankle dorsiflexion and gait mechanics in a cohort of children, including those with idiopathic toe walking and cerebral palsy. Dr. Pavone's methodology includes a comprehensive review of electronic health records, statistical analysis of mobility outcomes, and the potential implications for optimizing therapeutic treatments for children at risk of long-term mobility issues. Attendees can anticipate an engaging discussion on how this novel approach could transform current practices in managing toe walking. |
