NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE MARIANJOY REHABILITATION HOSPITAL ACHIEVES 1ST MAGNET DESIGNATION

Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital received its first Magnet® designation for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) on October 21, 2024. This achievement serves as a testament to the hospital’s commitment to high-quality patient care, nursing practice and creating a supportive work environment.

A Standout Achievement
Only about 10% of hospitals in the U.S. receive Magnet designation. Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital is one of only six freestanding rehabilitation hospitals to achieve Magnet designation.

“Magnet recognition is an honor that reaffirms the nursing professionalism and interprofessional culture demonstrated by our entire team,” says Anne Hubling, DNP, RN, CPHQ, NEA-BC, president and The Bon French Family – Mary Harrison Smith Chief Nurse Executive at Marianjoy. “Magnet couldn’t be accomplished without the strong relationships and teamwork from everyone who works here.”

Excellence Across the Hospital
Marianjoy was awarded 10 exemplars, which recognize an area where an organization excels compared to its peers. They include:
  • Exemplar 1: Organization-wide professional nursing certification rate
  • Exemplar 2: Organization-wide baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing
  • Exemplars 3 through 6: The organization outperformed the national mean for the majority of two years on 100% of the nursing units for these nursing quality indicators:
    • Falls with injury
    • Hospital-acquired pressure injury
    • Catheter-associated urinary tract infection
    • Central line-associated bloodstream infection
  • Exemplars 7 through 10: The organization outperformed the national mean for the majority of two years on 100% of the nursing units for these nursing patient satisfaction indicators:
    • Care coordination
    • Safety
    • Service recovery
    • Pain
