SHIELDS LECTURESHIP: CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN THORACIC SURGERY

The Shields Lectureship, hosted annually by Northwestern Medicine Canning Thoracic Institute, marked its 30th year with a memorable event. The annual lectureship honors the enduring legacy of Thomas W. Shields, MD, an innovator, educator and leader in thoracic surgery.
The day featured grand rounds, a case conference and a research seminar, all focused on advancing clinical leadership and surgical excellence. Thank you to our own thoracic surgery fellows and residents who presented:

We welcomed Larry Kaiser, MD, as this year’s distinguished speaker. A renowned thoracic surgeon and visionary in academic medicine, Dr. Kaiser gave the keynote, "From the Operating Room to the Boardroom: Leadership and the Current State of U.S. Healthcare."
With more than two decades of experience in executive leadership roles, Dr. Kaiser has helped shape the future of medical education, healthcare delivery and health system strategy across the United States. He currently serves as a managing director at Alvarez & Marsal, where he works at the intersection of academic medical centers and health systems with a focus on strategy, physician practice management and performance improvement.
