August 2024 NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE PSYCHIATRY WELCOMES NEW FACULTY MEMBERSNorthwestern Medicine Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is proud to welcome two new faculty members to the team. Learn more about Drs. Alekseichuk and Benjamin below:
Ivan Alekseichuk, PhD
Dr. Alekseichuk is a cognitive neuroengineer who is passionate about understanding the electrophysiological mechanisms of mental functions. His research explores how neural communications encode cognition and emotions in both wellness and disorders. His engineering focus is developing personalized, closed-loop, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to support cognitive functions and mental health. Kynon J. Benjamin, PhD
Dr. Benjamin is a computational geneticist dedicated to improving therapeutics for under-researched communities. His research focuses on how genetic ancestry influences molecular signatures in the brain. Using computational tools and disease-relevant models, such as postmortem brain tissues, brain organoids, and iPSC-derived glial cells, he uncovers the impact of genetic ancestry on complex brain traits. This integrative approach sheds light on the interplay between genetic and environmental factors in complex brain disorders. |
