July 2025 PARASPINAL SARCOPENIA INDEPENDENTLY PREDICTS PATIENT-REPORTED OUTCOMES AFTER OPEN LUMBAR DECOMPRESSIONAt the recent Lumbar Spine Research Society annual meeting, Srikanth N. Divi, MD, presented his team’s innovative research on sarcopenia’s impact on patient outcomes following minimally invasive surgery vs. open surgery for single-level decompression.
In this retrospective cohort study, Dr. Divi and other scientists assessed sarcopenia by measuring the cross-sectional area and percentage of fatty infiltration in critical muscles, including the psoas, multifidus and erector spinae at the L3-L4 disc space. In this video, Dr. Divi shares the key findings and their implications for clinical practice. |
