RADIOGRAPHIC OUTCOMES OF UNCEMENTED REVERSE SHOULDER ARTHROPLASTY FOR PROXIMAL HUMERUS FRACTURES

A recent JSES International publication co-authored by Matthew D. Saltzman, MD, evaluated radiographic outcomes following uncemented reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for proximal humerus fractures. The multicenter retrospective study compared three cementless humeral stem designs in more than 90 patients treated at two high-volume shoulder centers.

The investigators found that all three implant designs demonstrated generally favorable radiographic outcomes, supporting the continued use of cementless fixation for complex proximal humerus fractures. Notably, significant differences were observed in rates of humeral stress shielding and radiographic indicators associated with potential stem loosening, underscoring the importance of implant selection in fracture patients.
