Northwestern Medicine’s GLAUCOMA REVIEW AND UPDATE COURSE – A virtual CME program

According to the World Health Organization, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. However, ocular morbidity, including blindness, can typically be prevented if it’s recognized and addressed early. In recent years, advances in diagnostic technology, medications and surgical techniques have helped ophthalmologists navigate these challenges.

Northwestern Medicine Ophthalmology offers this no-cost virtual CME program for optometrists and ophthalmologists to promote awareness and better understanding of glaucoma care. This unique course will include:
  • Case presentations
  • Didactic lectures
  • Expert panel discussions

​It will provide timely education in several topics relevant to ophthalmologists. Attendees will gain useful pearls to apply in clinical practice to improve the care of patients with glaucoma.

After attending this educational activity, participants should be able to:
  1. Recognize how the diagnosis of glaucoma can be affected by co-morbid ocular conditions.
  2. Determine how glaucoma management can be affected by co-morbid ocular conditions.
  3. Identify how glaucoma management can be affected by systemic medical conditions. 
  4. Discuss different types of glaucoma and considerations for procedural management.
  5. Explain contemporary procedural treatments for different types of glaucoma.
  6. Identify ways of dealing with intraoperative complications in glaucoma patients.
  7. Recognize challenges related to optimizing surgical outcomes (e.g.: cataract extraction) in patients with glaucoma and become familiar with how to address these challenges.
