NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE OPHTHALMOLOGY WELCOMES 2 FACULTY MEMBERS

We’re excited to announce the addition of two highly skilled physicians to our team at Northwestern Medicine Ophthalmology. Avery J. Thau, MD, and Ivy Zhu, MD, have recently completed fellowships with Northwestern Medicine and have decided to continue their practice with us.

Dr. Thau

Avery J. Thau, MD, joins Northwestern Medicine as a clinical assistant professor of Ophthalmology and cornea specialist. Dr. Thau received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University Sidney Kimmel Medical College, completed his internship at Kettering Medical Center, residency at Indiana University and fellowship at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University.

As a cornea specialist, Dr. Thau is skilled in performing corneal transplantation and complex cataract surgery, as well as in treating severe cases of eye dryness, corneal infections and misshapen corneas.

Dr. Thau's passion for ophthalmology is rooted in the importance of eye health and seeing abilities, and the rewarding experience of helping people with vision issues.

Dr. Zhu

Ivy Zhu, MD, joins Northwestern Medicine as a clinical assistant professor of Ophthalmology and retina surgeon. Dr. Zhu received her medical degree and completed her residency at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago and most recently completed a surgical retina fellowship at McGaw Medical Center.

Specializing in treating conditions related to the vitreous and retina, Dr. Zhu’s passion for ophthalmology stems from the incredible ability to observe the anatomical structures of the eye without invasive procedures.

Dr. Zhu believes improving her patients' vision is a vital aspect of enhancing their overall quality of life. She is committed to lifelong learning and is grateful for the guidance and mentorship she received during her fellowship at Northwestern Medicine, which helped shape her professional journey and commitment to excellence in patient care.
