AGOS NAMES MELISSA A. SIMON, MD, MPH, PRESIDENT-ELECT

The American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society (AGOS) has named Melissa A. Simon, MD, MPH, as president‑elect. This appointment reflects Dr. Simon’s leadership and enduring contributions to women’s health, implementation science and health equity.

Dr. Simon is the founder and director of The Elevate Lab (formerly the Center for Health Equity Transformation at Northwestern University) and the Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative, two influential initiatives advancing equitable health outcomes. In addition, Dr. Simon also serves as associate director for Community Outreach and Engagement at Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. In that role, she leads efforts to integrate community-engaged science into cancer prevention, early detection and care delivery. Her work in this capacity has helped redefine how academic cancer centers partner with communities to reduce disparities and improve population health.
 
A Leader in Women’s Health, Equitable Care and Implementation Science
Dr. Simon is a leading expert in implementation science, women’s health across the lifespan, community engagement and health equity. Her research focuses on translating evidence-based interventions into real-world clinical and community settings to help ensure everyone has access to high-quality care.
Through a career marked by interdisciplinary collaboration and methodological rigor, Dr. Simon has influenced clinical practice, public health policy and research infrastructure at the national level. Her approach emphasizes sustainable change, stakeholder engagement and accountability, principles that are essential to the future of obstetrics and gynecology.

A Legacy of Excellence
Dr. Simon’s election as president-elect of AGOS adds to a growing list of national honors that reflect her scholarly impact and service to the field. She has been elected to both the National Academy of Medicine and the Association of American Physicians.
In recognition of her commitment to mentorship and workforce development, Dr. Simon received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentorship and was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar.
Dr. Simon has also played a critical role in shaping national clinical guidelines and research priorities. She is a former member and current consultant to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and serves on the NIH Office of Research in Women’s Health Advisory Committee.

As president‑elect of AGOS, Dr. Simon will help guide the organization in advancing excellence in academic OB-GYN care. Dr. Simon’s leadership comes at a pivotal moment as health systems nationwide seek innovative, data-driven approaches to improve outcomes, address disparities and translate discovery into practice. Her vision aligns closely with Northwestern Medicine’s commitment to research excellence, patient-centered care and societal impact.
