December 2024 NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE WELCOMES NEW NEUROSURGEONSNorthwestern Medicine Department of Neurological Surgery is delighted to welcome Jason K. Hsieh, MD, Jonathan Scoville, MD, MSPH, and Siting (Joy) Trybula, MD, to our faculty. We’re proud to celebrate their return to our department.
Dr. Hsieh joins us as an assistant professor of Neurological Surgery. Previously, he served as a visiting scholar in our department from 2020 to 2022. He completed his fellowship in functional and epilepsy surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern and his residency in neurological surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He holds a doctor of medicine degree with special qualifications in research from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Hsieh’s areas of research interest include applying neuroengineering techniques to intracranial electrode recordings and behavioral fMRI data in order to better understand the neural computations supporting higher level human cognitive processes, as well as translational neuroscience approaches to treating epilepsy and aphasia. Throughout his career, Dr. Hsieh has received numerous honors and awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Academic Award from the Department of Neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He has been actively involved in research support and has been awarded grants from such prestigious organizations as the American Brain Tumor Foundation, the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Trybula joins us as a clinical assistant professor of Neurological Surgery. She recently completed her residency in neurological surgery at McGaw Medical Center at Northwestern University. She earned her doctor of medicine degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she graduated with honors and was a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She also holds a doctor of pharmacy degree with distinction from Purdue University College of Pharmacy. Dr. Trybula’s research has focused on various aspects of neurosurgical treatments, including clinical meningioma databases, stereotactic radiosurgery and the management of extensive brain metastases. Her contributions have been published in such reputable journals as the Journal of Neurosurgery and Obesity. Dr. Trybula is an active member of professional organizations, including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Scoville recently completed his fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery and will continue his medical journey at Northwestern Medicine. He will transition to the role of Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery (Pediatric Neurological Surgery), holding positions at both Northwestern Medicine and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
