NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE WELCOMES (BACK) JUAN DELIZ GONZALEZ, MD, ’25 GMEF, AND ANAS ALSHAWA, MD, ’25 GMEF

We are proud to welcome two outstanding former fellows as full-time faculty members this fall.

Juan Deliz Gonzalez, MD, ’25 GMEF

Dr. Deliz Gonzalez is completing his fellowship in movement disorders at Northwestern Medicine and will join the faculty on September 1 as the new chief of Movement Disorders for Northwestern Medicine Orland Park in the south suburbs. In this role, he will lead programmatic growth and expand access to specialized care for patients with Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and other movement disorders.

Dr. Deliz Gonzalez completed his neurology residency and internal medicine internship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and earned his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. His academic interests include health disparities in neurology, telemedicine in Huntington’s disease and community-based interventions in Hispanic populations. He is a frequent presenter at national and international neurology conferences and is fluent in Spanish.

Anas Alshawa, MD, ’25 GMEF

Dr. Alshawa will also join the faculty on September 1, following the completion of his neuro-oncology fellowship at Northwestern Medicine. He joins the growing neuro-oncology team at Northwestern Medicine. As part of a broader expansion, Dr. Alshawa will lead a new neuro-oncology program at Northwestern Medicine Orland Park, bringing world-class brain and spine tumor care to patients in the south suburbs.

Dr. Alshawa completed his neurology residency at the University of Arizona, where he served as educational chief resident, and previously held a clinical research role at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research has focused on immunotherapy in rare cancers, and he has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and abstracts. Fluent in both Arabic and English, Dr. Alshawa brings a global perspective and a strong commitment to advancing neuro-oncologic care.
