November 2020 MUSIC INTERVENTION FOR ALZHEIMER'S, DEMENTIA AND OTHER NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONSFeaturing: Borna Bonakdarpour, MD
Borna Bonakdarpour, MD, assistant professor of Neurology in the Division of Behavioral Neurology at Northwestern Medicine, has a history of bringing the healing power of live music to his patients with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other cognitive impairments. During the pandemic, he’s gotten creative to make sure patients continue to benefit with a virtual “memory café”, made possible through collaboration with the Civitas Ensemble, a group of musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In this video and in a recent Wall Street Journal article, Dr. Bonakdarpour discusses how his music collaborations recently grew into a clinical trial examining the feasibility and efficacy of music interventions for patients with dementia, stroke, and other neurological conditions. |
