2024 YEAR IN REVIEW:
Northwestern Medicine Geriatrics
We are thrilled to share our key activities and accomplishments from 2024 and to recognize the people who made them possible. Our Geriatrics team works tirelessly to help older adults age in place with dignity and independence.
We continued to focus on what matters most: better care for our patients. This year saw a wide variety of work from our team to enhance care for older adults and their support systems, including:
As chief of Geriatrics, I’m humbled by the trust that older adults place in us and inspired by the trainees we teach to be the next generation of geriatricians. With the support of the NIH, we’re excited to continue our leading-edge research and make even greater strides in 2025.

NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE GERIATRICS
The Northwestern Medicine Geriatrics Department is devoted to delivering holistic, patient-focused care and conducting clinical research that addresses the complex health challenges faced by older adults, encompassing physical, emotional and social aspects.
We host a Claude D. Pepper Older American Independence Center, one of only 14 in the U.S., focusing on aging research. We consolidate research from across Northwestern Medicine to enhance primary care for older adults with multiple health conditions. The center also educates researchers in aging and geriatric science to advance this mission. Our program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital is among the nation’s top-ranked geriatrics programs by U.S. News & World Report, 2024 – 2025. We constantly broaden our extensive array of services, which includes home care, outpatient and inpatient services, consultation, primary care, supportive living, skilled nursing care and long-term care. |
