ANDRES DUARTE, MD, PHD, APPOINTED SECTION CHIEF OF HEPATOLOGY AND DIRECTOR OF LIVER TRANSPLANT

We’re excited to announce the appointment of Andres Duarte, MD, PhD, as the new section chief of Hepatology and director of Liver Transplant at Northwestern Medicine. Following a national search, Dr. Duarte was selected for this role based on his expertise in transplant medicine operations and his robust research portfolio, which together positioned him as the ideal leader to guide the next phase of growth in hepatology and liver transplant at Northwestern Medicine.

In his new role, Dr. Duarte will lead the Hepatology team and continue his close collaboration with Satish Nadig, MD, PhD, and other transplant surgery leaders. Together, they will advance the mission of Northwestern Medicine Abdominal Transplant Institute through coordinated clinical care, program development and academic excellence.

Dr. Duarte will play a central role in strengthening multidisciplinary care pathways and pushing the field of liver transplantation forward. He’ll also continue to foster research efforts that elevate clinical outcomes and deepen scientific understanding in hepatology.

Dr. Duarte currently serves as a professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and a professor of Organ Transplantation at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In addition, he’s currently medical director of Liver Transplant at Northwestern Medicine.
