February 2026 ABEL P. DAVID, MD, JOINS NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE OTOLARYNGOLOGY TEAMFeaturing: Abel P. David, MD
We’re excited to welcome Abel P. David, MD, as the newest member of the Northwestern Medicine Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery team. Dr. David is an otologist, neurotologist and skull base surgeon and an assistant professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He specializes in disorders of hearing, balance and the lateral skull base, with clinical expertise in cochlear implantation, endoscopic ear surgery and the management of complex ear and skull base tumors. Dr. David joined us in January 2026 after completing advanced fellowship training in Otology, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary-Harvard Medical School and affiliate hospitals including Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Dr. David received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed residency training in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, where he also pursued a postdoctoral research fellowship in inner ear biology. During his fellowship, he conducted translational research on noise-induced and age-related hearing loss at Eaton Peabody Laboratories, one of the largest and longest-standing auditory research centers in the world. As a surgeon-scientist, Dr. David’s research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of hearing loss, imbalance and skull base tumors with hopes of developing targeted medical therapies. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and he has received national awards for research and teaching, including grant support from the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Foundation. Dr. David is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the American Neurotological Society and the International Otopathology Society. He is committed to providing patient-centered, multidisciplinary care and advancing innovative research to improve outcomes for patients with hearing loss and skull base conditions. |
