April 2025 VA AWARDS DUAL RESEARCH GRANTS TO GRANT D. BARISH, MDGrant D. Barish, MD, of Northwestern Medicine Endocrinology, has been awarded two prestigious research grants — a VA Merit Award and the VA Clinician Scientist Investigator Award — from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA Clinician Scientist Investigator Award recognizes outstanding clinician scientists engaged in VA research while they continue to provide high-quality and timely clinical care to veterans.
The grants will be used to support Dr. Barish's research focusing on developing a mechanistic and physiologic understanding of glucagon and therapeutic manipulation of glucagon signaling. This innovative work aims to pave the way for novel treatments for diabetes mellitus, addressing a critical health issue affecting many veterans. The VA Merit Award provides four years of funding, while the VA Clinician Scientist Investigator Award adds an additional two years of support. This dual funding will empower Dr. Barish to delve deeply into his research while continuing to provide care to veterans. |
