CARDIOVASCULAR

SARAH A. GOLDSTEIN, MD, JOINS NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE BLUHM CARDIOVASCULAR INSTITUTE

Featuring: Sarah A. Goldstein, MD
Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute is proud to welcome Sarah A. Goldstein, MD. Dr. Goldstein is an assistant professor of Cardiology. With expertise in cardio-obstetrics, she will play a key role in expanding the Northwestern Medicine Women’s Heart Care Program. Her practice focus areas include:
  • Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease
  • Marfan Syndrome
  • Pregnancy and Heart Disease
  • Structural Heart Disease
  • Valvular Heart Disease
  • Women’s Cardiovascular Health

Dr. Goldstein completed both her residency and fellowship training at Duke University where she discovered that her lifelong passion for cardio-obstetrics fit seamlessly with her interest in adult congenital heart disease.

While at Duke, Dr. Goldstein developed her own training pathway within her fellowship program where she established a multidisciplinary cardio-obstetrics clinic with her mentor. She also collaborated with colleagues at Duke to create a multi-center retrospective registry to understand cardiac disease outcomes and appropriate interventions during pregnancy.

Following her residency at Duke, Dr. Goldstein became an assistant professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital. She also served as Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Disease and Pregnancy Program in partnership with medical directors for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

During her time at Yale, Dr. Goldstein was part of the multidisciplinary Maternal Cardiac Program that aims to improve the outcomes of women with heart disease complicating pregnancy. She worked with maternal-fetal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiologists, and pharmacists to support women with pre-existing heart disease. In collaboration with the maternal fetal medicine and pharmacy teams, Dr. Goldstein also helped care for women who developed preeclampsia to ensure that they received appropriate care throughout their first postpartum year.
