NILAY S. SHAH, MD, MPH, AWARDED GILBERT S. OMENN FELLOWSHIP BY THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MEDICINE

Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute is proud to announce that cardiologist Nilay S. Shah, MD, MPH, is among six outstanding health professionals selected by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) for the 2025 class of NAM Fellowships. Awarded the Gilbert S. Omenn Fellowship, Dr. Shah is recognized for his outstanding contributions to clinical advancement, innovative approach to cardiovascular disease prevention and commitment to exceptional patient care.

The Gilbert S. Omenn Fellowship provides the opportunity for exceptional early-career health science scholars to further their research, participate in health- and medicine-related NAM boards and contribute to reports developed by relevant roundtables and committees. At the intersection of biomedical research and public health, fellows collaborate with other emerging leaders to advance clinical research and inform health policy.

As assistant professor of Medicine (Cardiology), Medical Social Sciences (Determinants of Health) and Preventive Medicine (Epidemiology) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Shah conducts research in a variety of areas, including:
  • Transmission of cardiovascular health and risk across generations
  • Pregnancy-related cardiovascular risk factors in women and offspring
  • Social determinants of health and social risk factors
  • The application of digital health tools for cardiovascular risk assessment
